Meet the Pie City Frontline Heroes
Aletta Apples, a frontline staff member at Pie City George. Aletta was nominated for her ability to not only exceed sales expectations but also her ability to encourages fellow staff members to up their sales through her working and leading example She has the ability to attract clients through her excellent fast, efficient and friendly service.
With the opening of the new Pie City Knysna store, Aletta, as always, went the extra mile by providing support in multiple ways, from waking up very early to travel to Knysna, to sorting products, packing, preparing and baking, training of and making new employees feel welcome. She even slept over in Knysna for a few days whilst residing in George and leaving son behind. Aletta is deeply committed to Pie City.
She literally 'eat, sleeps, drinks Pie City. In her own words "Pie City is the oxygen in my blood". Aletta is always on time and highly disciplined and reliable.
Soliwe Sikhosana has done a truly exceptional deed for a Pie City customer. Soliwe has been a Shift supervisor at Maponya Mall since 2011. She has 2 kids, an 18 year old son and a 15 year old daughter. On her days off she enjoys taking her children to the movies, helps them with reading and sharing old stories with her children and their friends. On her Sunday’s off she takes her children to church. After work Soliwe enjoys socializing with her neighbours. Soliwe is a very friendly, positive lady and her true character shines through when she tells us how she loves seeing people prosper.
On the 15th of October, Soliwe was cleaning the tables in the lobby when she noticed that a customer had left her purse on the chair. When she opened the purse there was R500 inside. She found the identity document with an Edgards account that was paid the day. Soliwe looked for a phone number on the Edgards account and called the customer. Mrs Nduku answered the phone, she told Soliwe that she thought she had lost her purse on the taxi. Soliwe asked for Mrs Nduku‘s address and returned the purse to Mrs Nduku on her way home from work.
Jo Ann Hendricks is is 36 years old and has been working for Pie City Epping for 16 years. In 2008 Jo Ann started working as a frontline staff member and was later promoted to Store Manager.
Jo Anne says customers often leave their personal belongings and she will always keep this for them until they return to collect their belongings.
Jo Ann tells us of a time where a customer forgot his bag containing a laptop and R30 000 in cash. In the bag she found the contact details of the customer’s contact details. She contacted the customer and he collected the bag from Pie City Parow.
Jo Anne goal is to attend a part time course in Retail and Supervision and for her two children to have the best education.
Our January Night of the Stars nominee is Priscilla Shangase. She is 35 years old and has two children, Helen (13) and Sandisiwe (10). Priscilla started working at Pie City in 2004 as a trainee casual and has since worked her way up and is now the Team Leader at Bridge City.
Priscilla was nominated for her great act of bravery. A gentleman ran into the Bridge City store who was injured in a shooting. She immediately took action, pressed the panic button and closed the front door to the store.
Priscilla alerted mall security and emergency services to ensure the gentlemen is attended to and within 10 minutes of entering the store the gentleman was escorted to hospital.
Immediately after this incident, Priscilla, together with her staff, made sure the store was clean and ready for trading.
